Karim Benzema Has Come Close To Rinaldo's Record

Karim Benzema has taken on a much bigger role at Real Madrid this season, scoring more in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo. As a result, he is

Against Leganes he once again proved crucial to his team. A brace - which could have been three if he were on penalty duty - showed that he could be the no.9 that Real Madrid are in search of since the Portuguese star left the club.

And thanks to 'ProFootballDB', we can can see that the French striker is close to taking down one of Messi's records - scoring against the most opponents . Messi has currently scored against 36 different sides in LaLiga, but Benzema is now up to 36.

For Benzema, the opportunity is open to extend his streak and come closer to the record, as there are new clubs in the league that he has not previously scored against.

Unfortunately for him, two of his favourite victims are currently in the Segunda. He has scored 10 against Granada, and eight each against Malaga and Athletic Bilbao.

What is clear is that he has rediscovered his goalscoring touch, after struggling last season. Whether it was due to Ronaldo playing more centrally, or a lack of confidence, the last few seasons have not seen the best from Benzema.

He nows leads the Spanish league in scoring, with four goals in three games, which is a huge improvement on last season. In the previous campaign he had to wait until his 25th game to bag his fourth goal.

Furthermore, he is forming a perfect partnership with Gareth Bale. Between the two of them they have contributed 70% of Real Madrid's goals this season - two huge pieces of Julen Lopetegui's plans.
